From the recording It Is What It Is! Live!
Sometimes the best songs are the ones that the artist finds difficult to explain. Here's one. I'm still trying to figure it out. It has a dream-like, ethereal quality to it. I can hear and feel a lot of my influences in there. This song would have easily fit on an early Fogelberg album.
Lyrics
Scraps Of Paper
Bryan Poirier, Manitou Passage Music, ASCAP ©2007
Verse
I walked the river
Late in the afternoon
I searched the forest
For any sign of you
The wind did tell me
That you've been past here
But, it's been so long
The trail's cold I fear
Verse
I've been away some
Out on the open road
In search of something
An opus motherlode
Waving from the window
One weary winter day
The snow did take you
As I drove away
Chorus
Scraps of paper
Penny for your thoughts
Willing to wager
Love's haves and have-nots
Haves and have-nots
Verse
Links from our chains of life
Something that could have been
Names long forgotten
Now outside looking in
So many faces
Friends that have slipped away
Moments, now lifetimes
Fade like the summer's day
Chorus
